Templates

Templates and supplementary pages

Tracey can generate and detect several template types. Primary sheets start a font. Supplementary sheets now open a merge review so an upload does not replace the current font unless you choose that action. If you do not want to scan at all, the studio can also start blank drawing sets for these same template groups and let you draw directly in the repair canvas.

Simple template

Ready for current exports

Use this for the first working font: A-Z, a-z, numbers, and core punctuation in 72 taller cells.

Advanced / Complete

Ready as a two-page PDF

Downloads as one PDF with the base page first, then accents and extra symbols. Upload page 2 into an open font and confirm assignments before merging.

Freeform

Merge review available

One 72-box blank sheet for redos, alternates, or extra glyphs. Fill as many boxes as needed; Tracey asks you to assign drawn cells before applying them.

Review supplementary imports before applying them

Freeform sheets are unlabelled. Tracey can segment the drawn cells and prefill OCR-assisted guesses, but you should check the assignment list before starting a font, filling gaps, replacing glyphs, or keeping alternates.

What merge mode needs

Supplementary pages are not just extra uploads. They need merge decisions, duplicate handling, and source tracking so the font remains testable.

  • Keep the existing font open and treat new sheets as pending imports until the user confirms a merge action.
  • Merge labelled supplementary cells into the existing glyph set without deleting page 1.
  • Ask what to do when an uploaded character already exists: replace, keep as alternate, or skip.
  • Improve handwriting-specific classification and user-font matching beyond the current OCR-assisted import hints.
  • Extend saved project records so source sheets, glyph variants, and review state can be traced back to the original upload.
